International Symposium on Intersection of Language, Culture and Identity at Girijananda Chowdhury University

Kalgachia, 27th May, 2024: The Department of English and Foreign Languages of the Girijanada Chowdhury University has organized an International Symposium on the Intersection of Language, Culture and Identity. On behalf of Nabajyoti College, Kalgachia, a team of four Assistant Professors including- Dr. Malabika Baglari and Meghalee Morang from the Assamese Department, Abu Sayad Rofi and Kaberi Sonowal from the Department of English reached the venue at 10.00 AM.

After the process of registration, the anchor led the participants directly to the felicitation ceremony of the Resource Persons namely- Prof. Adnan Kadhim Al-Karghood, Al al-Bayt University, Mafraq, Jordan and Prof. Sharif Atiquzzaman, Government Brajalal College, Khulna, Bangladesh followed by the felicitation and introductory speech of Prof. Jayanta Deka, Chancellor, Girijananda Chowdhury University.

After a light Refreshment, Prof. Adnan Kadhim Al-Karghood delivered his lecture on the relationship between language and culture and its impact on personal and ethnic identity concerning the language and culture of Spain. Prof. Adnan rightfully narrated the role of language in transmitting and exchanging cultural values from one generation to another and the importance of language in forming multi-culturalism.

Thereafter, Prof. Sharif Atiquzzaman in his lecture navigated through the challenges of and limitations of language in the field of forming cultural identity along with the challenges faced by the migrated people in the new lands where different culture unites and creates a multi-cultural landscape.

The symposium came to an end with a vote of thanks from the anchor and distribution of Lunch.
