Celebration of World Environment Day, 2024

Kalgachia, 5th June: World Environment Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour at Nabajyoti College, Kalgachia on the 5th of June to encourage awareness and action for the protection of our environment.

The event started with a plantation drive where 50 saplings were planted in the college premises. The plantation programme was graced by the presence of the esteemed Principal, Dr Shahjahan Ali Ahmed, along with eager students and dedicated faculty members of the college.

The main program commenced with the Principal of the college presiding over the event. The faculties of the college and the students were present in the programme. The purpose of the event was given by Bitupan Kumar Deka, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Botany, Nabajyoti College. Two distinguished speakers shared their insights on crucial environmental topics.

The first speaker, Munni Bora, Assistant Professor from the Department of Botany at Nabajyoti College, delved into the pressing issue of species extinction. Ms. Bora elaborated on the various causes of species extinction, provided examples of endangered species, highlighted the impact of climate change, and underscored the importance of preserving biodiversity.

Dr Atrayee Banaspati, the second speaker, shed light on environmental pollution. She explored the different types of pollution, their sources, reasons, and effects, offering a detailed analysis of each form of pollution. The audience was captivated by the speakers’ informative presentations, which emphasized the urgency of addressing environmental challenges.

Subsequently, the Principal of the college, Dr Shahjahan Ali Ahmed delivered a motivational speech, encouraging the audience to take proactive steps towards environmental conservation. The program was skillfully hosted by Dr Neetu Saharia,Assistant Professor from the Department of Assamese. Additionally, the inauguration of the college magazine for the session 2021-22 added a creative and literary touch to the event. The magazine wasinaugurated by the Principal of the College, M.S. Seikh,  Retired professor, Dept. of Zoology, Sushil Kumar Sarkar Retired Vice-Principal, and in the presence of the other teachers of the college.

In conclusion, the World Environment Day celebration at Nabajyoti College was an enlightening and enriching experience for all participants. The event served as a reminder of the collective responsibility we share in safeguarding our planet for future generations. The vote of thanks was extended by Chonglomlhing Keivom, Assistant Professor from the Department of History, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the program.
